CamScanner Android App is a PDF-creator app that also converts printed text to machine-encoded text.It have 100 Million downloads in play store.
A recent report of Kaspersky shown that the App have a malware, known as Malware Dropper. This comes after Kaspersky security researchers Igor Golovin and Anton Kivva took a closer look at the Android app following a series of negative reviews on the Google Play Store.
CamScanner was actually a legitimate app, with no malicious intensions whatsoever, for quite some time. It used ads for monetization and even allowed in-app purchases.
However a recent update changed the recent versions of the app shipped with an advertising library containing a malicious module.
What Is Trojan Dropper?
The Trojan Dropper is a malware strain. It can be used by the App developer to install malicious codes in the devices.
Researcher called this module “Trojan-Dropper.AndroidOS.Necro.n”,frequently download encrypted code from a server. The decrypted and executed in the infected device.
This “dropped” malware, in turn, is a Trojan Downloader that downloads more malicious modules depending on what its creators are up to at the moment.
What it does?
An app with this malicious code may show intrusive ads and sign users up for paid subscriptions.Even it can steal your sensitive data.
Some users of the CamScanner app have already spotted suspicious behavior. They left reviews about it on play store.
Kaspersky researchers analyzed the recent version and reported to google about it.They aware users not to use this app and if installed then remove it.
However Google removed the app but many users have installed on their device. It is very important question how Google will find this type of malicious apps.Because many apps frequently update their version and it is really hard to check each and every app.
So no matter how much an App downloaded or it looks a good App.It may have malicious codes. So always check before install the App on your device.
