Google Introduce Their Google Fingerprint Authentication

Users will soon able to log in to google based web services and native apps using their Google Fingerprint Authentication.The feature will be available to the users by a Google play service update.

The new Google Fingerprint Authentication will enhance and protect the users from unauthorized access of their account.The company is rolling out the feature via Google Play Services update to all Android 7 and above devices in the next few days.

A Google persons says :

We are happy to announce that you can verify your identity by using your fingerprint or screen lock instead of a password when visiting certain Google services. “The feature is available on Pixel devices and coming to all Android 7+ devices over the next few days.

The new Google Fingerprint Authentication feature will make accounts more secure and convenient.The new Google enhancements are built using the “FIDO2” standards, W3C WebAuthn and FIDO CTAP.This design will provide simpler and more secure authentication to users.

More over the benefit of FID02 is that the same authetication will be available for web like other native Apps and Web Services.

User now just need to register their fingerprint with the service for once then it will work for both native apps and web services.Although the advantage of this technology is that Users Fingerprint will not be stored in the servers.A cryptographic version will be sent to servers for proof.This is the main fundamental feature of FID02 design.

How To Check Apps and Web service Authetication:

Open the Chrome app on your Android device, navigate to https://passwords.google.com then choose a site to view or manage a saved password. Follow the instructions to confirm that it’s you trying signing in.

Google’s automated defenses securely block the overwhelming majority of sign-in attempts even if an attacker has your username or password. Further, you can protect your accounts with two-step verification (2SV), including Titan Security Keys and Android phone’s built-in security key.
